The Arts
Education Program offers a wide variety of opportunities for
student participation and learning. At the elementary level,
visual arts and music are presented to all students as an
ongoing curricular subject to encourage their artistic and
creative development. At the middle and high school levels,
students may select for study courses in Band, Choral Music,
General Music, Visual Arts, Theatre Arts, and Dance. The Strings
program is offered to all interested fifth and sixth grade
students as part of a sequential instructional program (grades
5-12) to develop fine motor skills, aural development, and
background for success in instrumental music.
As an outgrowth
of the Arts Education Instructional Program, artistic
opportunities such as All-County Band, All-County Chorus,
Cumberland County Youth Orchestra, Cumberland County Middle
School Youth Orchestra, Dance Expo, Summer Music Workshops,
Summer Theatre Workshops and the annual Cross Creek Mall Visual
Arts Exhibit are sponsored for the development of the higher
achieving student. Our students and performing ensembles have a
strong tradition of consistently receiving numerous awards,
recognitions, scholarships, and advance placements in various
local district, and state competitions, festivals, and
performing arenas.
In addition to
curricular offerings, the Arts Education Program provides a
range of cultural opportunities for all students. Through a
Partnership with the Arts Council of Fayetteville/Cumberland
County, the Artist-in-the-Schools Program uses a three-way match
of state, local, and federal monies to provide the services of
professional artists and performing arts companies for
workshops, residencies, and performances at a low cost. The
Music Program is another partnership program with the Arts
Council and provides residencies by local artists and arts
agencies. Each year, fourth and fifth grade students look
forward to attending performances of the Nutcracker Ballet and
the North Carolina Symphony. To provide these and many more
opportunities for student learning, the Arts Education program
joins with many state and community organizations and agencies
such as the North Carolina Symphony, Fayetteville Symphony,
Fayetteville Museum of Art, Museum of the Cape Fear, the North
Carolina State Ballet, Methodist College, Fayetteville State
University, Cape Fear Regional Theatre, Cape Fear Studios, and
the North Carolina Arts Council to provide opportunities for
student learning in the Arts. |
